Aroma/breath therapy

Medicinal plants that have a positive effect on body, mind and soul

Why is correct breathing so important?

Breathing reacts sensitively and immediately to psychological and physical changes. At the same time, it is the only bodily function that can be controlled voluntarily, although it runs involuntarily without interruption.

There are mechanical and nervous interactions between the breathing movement and numerous body organs and their functions.

Breathing influences heart function, blood circulation, oxygen supply, carbon dioxide levels, ion concentration and therefore metabolism.

At the level of the central nervous system, breathing influences a person's conscious processes and thus their sensory and emotional life.

There are numerous forms of breathing therapy that differ less in their goal than in their methodology.

Some methods work with the so-called "unconscious breath" of the client, others with the "voluntary breath" or the "authorized breath".

Here with us, we mainly use the following two breathing techniques:

Diaphragmatic breathing/abdominal breathing

During inhalation, the diaphragm lowers and the abdominal wall bulges outwards, giving the lungs more room to expand downwards. During chest breathing, inhalation and exhalation are supported by the contraction of the intercostal muscles, which contract during inhalation.

Aromatherapy uses aromatic and medicinal plants that have a positive effect on body, mind and soul, increasing well-being and promoting health in a holistic way.

Pleasant memories and moods are often associated with scents, as they have a direct effect on centers in the brain and regulate mental and physical processes from there.

Scent stimuli reach the limbic system directly without being censored by the cerebral cortex. So before we consciously perceive a scent, it has already had an effect on our subconscious.

Sympathy, motivation, mood, memory, creativity and the regulation of the autonomic nervous system are localized in the limbic system.

The scent stimuli in the limbic system lead to the release of neurochemical substances such as endorphins, serotonin and noradrenaline. Serotonin has a calming effect, noradrenaline has an activating effect and endorphins relieve pain.

Respiratory therapy encompasses various alternative medicine methods, all of which are based on the assumption that breathing has the most intensive connection to all other levels of the human body.

All the information that arises in the body or brain flows together in the complex networked center of the formatio reticularis in the brain stem.

Every little stimulus, whether from outside or inside, influences breathing. The theory is that every level of the human being can be reached and harmonized by working on the breath.

Nervus vagus respiration

The vagus nerve extends from the head to the abdomen and influences breathing. A specific technique - slow and prolonged exhalation - activates this part of the autonomic nervous system and has a calming effect on the body and mind.
